Pet adoption for seniors in Phoenix: work through a normal day

Before choosing a dog, walk through the daily care the prospective adopter can provide. The details of the home and the individual animal matter more than a broad label such as easygoing.

Check the animal's current information

The Maricopa County animal adoption catalog lists animals through the county's own system. Use the current animal entry and confirm where and how to meet them. Published counts, promotions, and older screenshots can change; this guide does not establish today's supply or fees.

Describe the actual indoor and outdoor routine

Who will take the dog outside, and what route will they use? What happens during appointments, visitors, and time away from home? Ask the caregiver about the dog's present routine and the help they need. Discuss health or weather-related care questions with a veterinarian rather than assuming a local climate makes a particular dog suitable.

Include lifting, leash handling, grooming, transport, and regular costs. For a cat, consider litter care, supplies, handling, and appointments as well. A quieter photograph or older age is not evidence of low care needs.

Make help specific

If a relative offers support, agree whether that means an occasional ride, daily care, financial help, or care during an absence. Ask the prospective senior adopter which tasks they want help with. Record any unresolved issue before committing to a placement.

Search or rehome through the right route

The Golden Paw Match quiz organizes preferences using reported listing details; it does not verify health or safety. Private rehome listings can appear nationwide, so confirm the location directly. Organization listings use their own adoption process.

A senior owner or authorized caregiver can create a free listing for a dog of any age, with explicit health, behavior, and care disclosures. Private account conversations are also free. Keep care arranged while seeking a home: Golden Paw Match does not take custody, provide clinical assessment, or promise a placement deadline.

Take the next step at your pace

Golden Paw Match helps older adults and authorized caregivers connect. Listing information comes from caregivers or shelters; discuss health, behavior and daily care before deciding.
